Counselling Support

Liberate offers free counselling to anyone from a minority group in Jersey who is experiencing poor mental health. Clients are seen on a first-come-first-served basis.

As a charity that works to ensure minority groups have equal access to and equal quality of services, such as healthcare, we know that this is not always the case and people from minority groups can feel anxious about approaching certain healthcare providers because of poor past experiences, concerns about discrimination and/or anxiety that their particular issues will not be understood by someone who does not share their minority identity.

We have a diverse group of counsellors who have experience of being a member of a minority group in Jersey, so please ask if you would like to see someone who has a particular minority identity and we will endeavour to fulfil your request.

Liberate’s service aims to support people experiencing stress, anxiety, panic, depression, grief and other lower level mental health issues to help prevent the condition becoming more serious. We encourage people to seek help early when recognising the symptoms of poor mental health. People experiencing more severe mental health conditions should self-refer to Jersey Talking Therapies (https://www.gov.je/Health/Mental/pages/jerseytalkingtherapies.aspx).

Clients are offered six one hour sessions for free. If counselling requires more than six sessions, we ask that clients undertake a means-test to determine whether further sessions should continue to be free or paid for. Sessions may be over telephone or video link, face-to-face, or ‘walk and talk’ therapy to suit your preferences/situation.

Counselling support is offered by CPCAB Therapeutic Counsellors trained to Diploma Level 4, who are in their final year and completing their practical workplace experience hours, and fully qualified counsellors. All Liberate’s counsellors are DBS checked.

Testimonial

In July last year I lost my brother to suicide. I was totally devastated and completely destroyed with grief and shock. I contacted LIBERATE as I did not know where to turn. I had tried other organisations on the Island but the waiting list was so long and I needed to see someone immediately. They promptly replied and got me in to see one OF their counSELLORS within a few days. He was fantastic, he really made me feel at ease and helped me to work through my grief. He gave me the tools I needed to come to terms with my losS. His friendly and easy going nature was a great comfort to me at such an horrific time in my life. Now six months later I am finally getting my life back. I cannot thank Liberate enough. This is a wonderful charity and I will be forever indebted to them. The kindness and compassion they have shown me will stay with me forever. Totally wonderful. Xx🙏
